It is frightening to think that in less than three weeks' time Ascot will have only one major fixture left in its 2020 Flat campaign, Champions Day in mid-October.
By the time Champions Day takes place, hopefully the sound of silence will have been replaced by jangling tills, popping champagne corks and bookmakers shouting the odds.
But whatever the state of play, there will be something different about Champions Day this year, with the jockeys' title set to be decided – as it always should be – over the full duration of the Flat season and no prizes given out at Ascot.
