'I've never been one to do nothing' - dual Derby winner back in the saddle at 70

Signs that Derby week is almost upon us are more in evidence than ever at Headquarters – not least because a dual Epsom winner from the past has decided to come out of retirement to ride out despite recently hitting 70.

Dave Goodwin, who led up Slip Anchor (1985) and Commander In Chief (1993) to Derby glory during his time with Sir Henry Cecil, celebrated hitting the milestone last Friday by sharing cake and Prosecco with his new boss, 72-year-old Chris Dwyer.

The Scot, who originally quit the saddle five years ago after a long spell with Jeremy Noseda, has now joined John Lowe as one of only two septuagenarians thought to be still riding out in Newmarket.
