It's raining and I have a recurring nightmare - it can only mean the jumps
This is always a difficult time of year for me. I've just spent seven months identifying as a Flat punter, filling my Racing Post tracker with Flat horses and praying for lovely Flat weather to make betting more straightforward, and then along comes the late autumn and life goes into meltdown.
It starts with the rain. The evening meetings end and you know that sooner or later it will start bucketing down. The tracker becomes obsolete, unless you've got some lurkers in there that made the cut last November and you haven't had the heart to discard them. July form is now a throwback, devoid of relevance, fraught with danger.
I'm looking for an alternative outlet, but every last ray of autumn sunshine reminds me of the horrors of summer jumping (even the trainers are celebrating not having so much of it now).
