William Buick turned the British Flat jockeys' championship into a procession – but among the also-rans was a surprising name who vastly exceeded expectations.

Newly-weds Hollie Doyle and Tom Marquand appropriately tied on 91 winners behind Buick's impressive 157, and just three winners back was Paul Mulrennan in fourth place in the standings.

Nobody mentioned Mulrennan in the title talk at the start of the season, but he outperformed many of the more fancied rivals in the championship, which ran from 2,000 Guineas day at Newmarket on April 30 to Champions Day at Ascot last Saturday.
