It's hopelessly naive to expect altruism in racing - except this once

Racing is full of cliches whose users reveal how little they understand about the meaning of words and the sport itself.

There's 'Always back the outsider of three', 'He stays a mile but is best at six furlongs', or 'Everybody should put their own interests aside and work together for the good of the industry'.

The first two are of little concern. Just offer to lay the perpetrator's bets and you will come out on top in the long run.
