Inverdale hounding is light years removed from Olympic spirit

These last couple of weeks have been a marvellous time to be British. The performances of Team GB in Rio have been inspirational, while the BBC, aside from some annoying channel-hopping, has again shown it excels at bringing us such monumental events.

Sadly, some media coverage of one of those working for the BBC has reminded us of a particularly unfortunate British trait.

For many years John Inverdale has been one of the country's finest live broadcasters. For a quarter of a century the avid racing fan has been BBC Radio's main presenter at the Cheltenham Festival, but his talents stretch across a number of sports, as has been evident during these Olympic Games. That makes the manner in which sections of the media seek to rip him to shreds depressing, distasteful and, indeed, disgraceful.
