Following the BHA's announcement that connections will be compelled to declare when a horse is running for the first time following a new wind surgery from early next year, the spotlight has fixed mainly on whether this is information punters should be told.

They should be told. As time goes on the spotlight will move elsewhere.

It will hopefully switch to a fascinating and revealing assessment of data that has never been assembled in a way so extensive as is now going to be possible. It should tell us much about horses, bloodlines, trainers, particular forms of surgery and the thoroughbred breed as a whole.
