In-running punters: the enemy of the people or just nosy neighbours?

I've always been in awe of the groundbreakers in any sport; the pioneers who change the landscape with their out-of-the-box thinking and their maverick spirit. In racing, think Martin Pipe and Michael Dickinson, kicking sand in the face of the status quo and leaving the unreconstructed floundering in their wake

I hesitate to include iffy in-running punters in the same breath as these two geniuses of the turf, but I have to say that every time their activities rear what has become known as 'their ugly head', I can't help but raise a smile and admire their powers of invention.

Last week they were at it again, back at Leicester races but this time abandoning the drone they had flown over the track a year ago (even though experts said they weren't in breach of aviation protocol) in favour of a more prosaic camera on a dirty great big 20ft pole erected in the garden of a neighbouring house. What will they think of next?
