When you look at the strength of the fields at Ascot this afternoon it's hard to escape the feeling that Qipco British Champions Day has become the most important fixture in the British Flat season.

There is quality across the board. The four Group 1 races have all produced line-ups more than worthy of their billing, while the Group 2 event looks like a Group 1 in terms of the horses it has attracted.

Ground conditions have tended to be a talking point in the first few years of Champions Day, but Ascot is not going to be as soft today as in previous seasons.
