So, just like that, Galway is gone. Well, gone as we know it anyway. Let’s face it, Ballybrit without bodies is like an omelette without any eggs. It is just a whole heap of chopped up, meaningless ingredients on a plate and there might not even be a Plate this year, or the Hurdle for that matter. Ladies' day without any ladies; family fun day without any families; the champagne bar without any champagne.

It will just be an industry week, or more likely, three or four days to keep the show on the road. And, as we have found out over this mind-numbingly boring past month, any show at all is better than none.

The announcement on Tuesday that mass gatherings of more than 5,000 people would not be happening in Ireland until September at the earliest means we are probably preparing ourselves for a summer of racing behind closed doors.
