Haydock was a raceday that had it all - I still haven't come down from the high

Almost a week has now passed since the Betfair Chase and I'm still firmly of the belief it was one of the best racedays I've attended.

Before I explain why, I have a confession to make. As a relative local to Haydock for most of my life, I have a fondness for a course that helped stimulate my interest in racing.

But even viewed through rose-tinted spectacles, there is no getting away from the fact last Saturday's card had pretty much everything. A sensational winner of the big race; the birth of a new chasing superstar; an emotional family success; a valuable win for a small stable; even some in-running drama thrown in for good measure. From a reporter's perspective, there was enough material to fill a whole newspaper.
