Hardest part is yet to come as Enable turns for home in Career Stakes
British racegoers are sure to bid Enable an emotional farewell at York on Thursday. It’s a fitting venue for what will almost certainly be the mare’s last appearance on these shores, and the fact Magical takes her on means we will see her in full flight. There has been no more majestic sight over the last three seasons.
Needless to say, we shall all miss her. Enable has become public property, and while the Yorkshire Oaks is not the one that really matters it will weigh heavily in the hearts of her devotees if she is somehow beaten.
On the face of it, this is one of Enable’s most straightforward assignments. She is back against her own sex, having taken on males since she hacked up in this race last year. A field in single digits, coupled with York’s long straight, affords her plenty of margin for error. What could possibly go wrong?
