Poundland Hill. It's a name that will take some getting used to - and many never will - but the rebranding of the Hill at Epsom is not a calamity, far from it.

While many – including some colleagues – will no doubt disagree, on reflection there is plenty of good news for the sport emanating from this deal.

At a time when British racing has been crying out to bring in new sponsorcuts from outside traditional sources such as the betting industry, in Poundland the sport has attracted a high street name which employs 18,000 people and estimates it gets seven million customers through the doors every week.
