Golden ducks and great knock as Newmarket trainers enjoy charity cricket match

A number of Newmarket trainers swapped the gallops for the crease last week as Newmarket Racing XI took on Newmarket Cricket Club on the Severals.

The racing side certainly made more of a fist of it than in their first clash 12 months ago, which Newmarket CC won handsomely, with a great knock of 48 by Michael Bell's son Nick making for a much tighter finish this time and an honourable 14-run loss.

As last year, the racing team was captained by George Scott and included fellow trainers George Boughey, Richard Spencer, Harry Eustace, William Knight, James Ferguson, Thady Gosden and vice-captain Ed Crisford.
