Going descriptions have got to be more accurate

Surely it is time that the BHA started taking action against courses for misleading owners, trainers and the racing public on the state of their going.

The latest example of this was Wetherby. Horses were declared for its two-day meeting last Friday and Saturday on the basis of a going description of good.

At the start of racing on Friday the noticeboard at the owners’ and trainers’ entrance said ‘Good 6.8’. However, jockeys and trainers who walked the course before racing described it as good to firm all the way up the home straight and surprise, surprise, the course announced after the second race that the going had changed to good, good to firm in places.
