Next month's general election will have all sorts of consequences and the gambling industry has just experienced one of them.

The Gambling Related Harm All-Party Parliamentary Group this week released its interim report on online gambling, the recommendations from which – including a £2 stake limit on slot machine games – wiped tens of millions of pounds from the stock market values of a number of operators.

The APPG, which has membership from across the political spectrum, is not a decision-making body but it is regarded as influential having played a part in its previous guise in forcing the government to accede to demands that the maximum stake on FOBTs be reduced to £2.
