French Arc bid lacks quality and quantity but genius Fabre may yet save the day
France is extremely good at hosting the Ryder Cup. In recent years it has become less good at winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. That trend looks likely to continue on Sunday unless the genius who is Andre Fabre can put a stop to the sequence of defeats.
There is no need for widespread Gallic glumness. The last three Arc winners have been trained in Britain or Ireland but the previous three were trained in France. However, if the locals are to prevent the balance tipping towards the visitors they may need the assistance of Fabre, whose potentially strong numerical challenge is headed by the extremely easy to fancy Waldgeist.
No trainer has won more Arcs than Fabre. Moreover, he is now long overdue another, with his seventh and most recent success having come with Rail Link 12 years ago.
