Frankel overexposure is likely to prove detrimental in the end

I seem to have started a very large hare with my letter of April 30, in which I wrote that racing’s obsession with Frankel was becoming a bit of a bore.
I am a huge admirer of Tom Kerr, but his column eulogising Frankel – celebrating his marketability while implicitly criticising those of us who fail to buy into this wonderhorse status – was a misinterpretation of my argument.
I do not rate Frankel anything like as highly as Sea The Stars (or – before my time! – Brigadier Gerard, Nijinsky, Dancing Brave etc, whose careers had more breadth and variety).
