Some things seem to make no sense.

How can an autumn Newmarket juvenile maiden have only four runners?

Friday's underwhelming affair was staged over seven furlongs, open to colts and geldings and held one day before an equivalent maiden for fillies that needed dividing. The ground was admittedly quick, but it was on the easy side of good when only five horses were declared on Wednesday morning.
