For safety's sake changes are needed to stopped race procedure

Having a safe and secure way of stopping races, of making riders aware of likely danger ahead and instructing them to pull up, is vital to the health and safety of everyone involved at the sharp end of our sport.

When riders or horses are being treated on the course they should never be at risk of being mown down by the runners coming round again, but sadly the current way of races being stopped leaves them at risk.

Luckily so far there have been no serious or additional injuries, and it is the riders who get the blame when things go wrong, but when something so important is not 100 per cent effective, change is needed.
