Flying O'Briens: father and sons to lead the way in the new decade

With the turn of the decade thoughts inevitably turn to the ten years gone by and the next ten to come.

So to adopt the template of form study, looking to the past for clues to the future, let's try to draw some inspiration from the last decade for what lies in store for Irish racing.

The obvious place to start is with the O'Brien family. Having just turned 40 in 2009, Aidan O'Brien remains unchallenged at the top of the tree after a period that yielded five Derbys, 21 British Classic wins, 20 Irish Classics, including the Irish Derby on six occasions, eight Breeders' Cup triumphs, and an Arc.
