Female allowance could ultimately prove counterproductive

As the mother of a female jockey, Page Fuller, I have been reading the news and comments regarding whether they should have an allowance.

I decided to look at a snapshot of racing and chose February 9-11. The results were interesting.

Over the three days, covering 13 British meetings, jumps and Flat, discounting one race as it was single sex, male jockeys had 684 rides, winning 78 races, while the females had 48 rides, winning nine. I was counting manually, but it appears the boys had a strike-rate of about 11 per cent and the girls about 19 per cent.
