Encouraging words from racing's leaders - but the sport will expect action soon

Last week I asked the question of what had happened to the Quality Jump Racing Review and its proposals for reinvigorating the sport in Britain. This week I can give the answer – it is the same thing that happened to the controversial plans to reduce the race programme next year.

The jumps review is being wrapped up in the wider strategy work being carried out by British racing's leadership.

The governance of the sport and a strategy to secure its long-term future were subjects that came up for discussion on numerous occasions at the Horseracing Industry Conference organised by the Racing Foundation at Newbury racecourse last week, when industry leaders spoke of the need for its various stakeholders to be brought together.
