When ITV Racing summarised the events from last Saturday, both presenters agreed they had not seen a horserace like the Derby they had just witnessed.

They did see a horserace, just not the one they hoped or expected to see.

Races come in many and varied forms and we can’t always expect the Derby to produce some spectacle based on preconceived ideas as to how the fancied horses might perform.
