Michael O’Leary may be in the process of winding down his Gigginstown House Stud ownership but it looks like he will continue to provide us with plenty to talk about for a while yet.

From sacking Davy Russell to his split with Willie Mullins, and from his spat with Phil Smith to the shock announcement he is going to phase out his ownership interests, and everything else in between, the Ryanair chief executive’s decisive and uncompromising ways have always added an element of intrigue to the game.

His forthright manner might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but sport is better for a bit of colour and a lack of filter from some its most influential protagonists.
