Interference rules don't give jockeys or stewards enough credit

When Irish Champions Weekend was inaugurated, one of the simmering fears was that the two-day gala would be dominated by a select few powerhouses.

With the best will in the world, in 2014 few would have envisaged Jessica Harrington or Ger Lyons as being the ones who would threaten to dominate proceedings to the exclusion of others.

On Saturday, that is what happened, as two of the sport’s most upwardly mobile yards farmed seven of Leopardstown’s eight races. Harrington then also claimed Sunday’s Moyglare Stud Stakes with Discoveries to ensure herself and Lyons signed off with a quarter of the ICW’s 16 races apiece.
