It is a sight we had become accustomed to, had possibly even taken for granted, but at times throughout the past 11 months thought we would never see again.

Davy Russell came cantering down to the final flight at Navan on Saturday aboard odds-on shot Chemical Energy, pinged it and flew up the hill to record a wide-margin success.

Seldom has a maiden hurdle winner sparked such celebrations but, given what Russell has been through in the past 11 months, the outpouring of emotion on his return to the winner's enclosure was more than merited.
