Try My Best, Tromos, Monteverdi, Storm Bird. All looked superstars in their first season but failed to train on.

Dewhurst winner Too Darn Hot clearly appears to be an exceptional prospect and indeed could be the next great miler, with the 2,000 Guineas at his mercy.

But my 40-plus years of following top-class racing lead me to have serious reservations over his prospects.
