Prize-money overhaul key before owners consider cheesecake a sweet enough reward
Who doesn't love a bit of cheesecake (apologies to those with dairy allergies) and all its luscious, creamy goodness? It's a treat I would gladly accept any time of the day, but if I were an owner would I view it as acceptable reward upon watching my horse win a race?
After Glen Again won the 1m2f Class 4 handicap at Nottingham on Sunday, Richard Ryan, racing manager for owners Teme Valley, caused a stir by posting a picture on Twitter of the large dessert subsequently presented to the winning connections.
Nottingham was quick to respond and pointed out all winning owners also receive a framed photo of the horse, a video of the race and a Fairfax bridle that goes to the trainer (in addition, of course, to the prize-money), and that if they hadn't done so then they could get in touch.
