When you have nothing nice to say it is often best to say nothing at all. Yet increasingly some punters who most definitely have nothing nice to say want to say plenty – and they are saying it in a way that can cause enormous hurt and offence to those in receipt of their words.

Technological advances have made communication much easier and quicker. Anyone with an open Twitter account can be contacted within seconds. With websites offering up telephone numbers and email addresses, it is often similarly straightforward to call someone or make instant written contact without even having to pay for the cost of a stamp. In some instances, this is progress that has significantly lowered the tone of conversation.

One need only look at the experiences of many trainers and jockeys to see that.
