Of all the occasions for officials from British racing to be in Brussels to discuss the effect of Brexit on the sport, the day Boris Johnson was confirmed as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom might have been seen as inopportune.

Thankfully they were not frogmarched to the nearest Eurostar by angry Eurocrats and sent back to London with a flea in their ear.

Nevertheless, the confirmation that Johnson is the next resident at 10 Downing Street brings the subject of Brexit back into sharp focus for the sport, not only in the UK but also Ireland and France as well as other European racing nations.
