Book lovers back in business as racing museum's new shop proves a hit

You would think in a town dominated by the sport such as Newmarket there would be huge demand for racing-related reading material.

Perhaps surprisingly, though, there had been a dearth of outlets selling racing books since the closure last year of Tindalls newsagents – a Mecca for racing purists as it sold books, both old and new, that covered every aspect of the sport – after 132 years in business.

The situation deteriorated when, before the first lockdown, the town's Oxfam charity shop, which was often full of old racing books, closed its doors as did the paper shop – which often had racing-related stock – by the clock tower.
