Bizarre events at owners' annual general meeting leave a sour taste

What exactly is going on at the Association of Irish Racehorse Owners? Under normal circumstances the question would be a matter of supreme indifference and total irrelevance to those not involved in the organisation.

However, in the light of bizarre happenings at last week's annual general meeting, the AIRO's internal workings have been exposed to wider public scrutiny. Reports included a startling revelation that the Gardai were called to the meeting.

Not good for the image, you might think, if the Gardai are required to intervene at a seemingly routine meeting of a body representing a vital industry sector, the people who keep the whole show on the road through their investment and support.
