Big five domination showns no signs of abating

Two recent high-profile fixtures at Leopardstown, scene of Sunday's Stan James Irish Gold Cup, have underlined an inescapable theme of the 2016-17 season, the dominance of a handful of stables in terms of quality and quantity of winners.

While the principal focus has been on the duel at the top between Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott, the three other leading players, Henry de Bromhead, Noel Meade and Jessica Harrington, are also prospering in the heat of competition. The way in which these five trainers carved up the big-race prize-money on Sunday was quite phenomenal.
