Address this absurd ruling which is clearly not fit for purpose
I don’t believe there are too many people who feel the Sandown stewards acted incorrectly in coming up with their revised placings for the bet365 Gold Cup (April 24) given the rules as they stand. There can’t be too many people, however, who believe those revised placings represent a just result, and the existing rule is clearly unfit for purpose.
The rule needs to be changed to one which would have allowed Kitty’s Light to be placed first, Enrilo second and Potterman third . The current one allows none of these horses to be placed correctly.
In this particular case, a simple expedient of promoting the horse who suffered the interference in front of the horse who caused the interference rather than demoting the horse who caused the interference behind the horse who suffered the interference, would have provided the ‘correct’ result. Although that would not always be the case.
