With Haydock all but empty and darkness fallen, I was making my way behind the stands ruminating on events when the enduring image of the day suddenly appeared.

Heading for the exit was an unmistakeable stocky figure, trilby on head and tweed-coated, carrying a large red box containing the Betfair Chase trophy under his right arm.

Colin Tizzard was about to embark on the 230-mile run home to Dorset after a big day when, yet again, he was the centre of attention thanks to the indomitable Cue Card.
