One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday
Trainer
Roger Varian has enjoyed a successful start since racing's resumption and he has a number of strong chances to extend his tally on Saturday.
At Newbury, he runs Cabaletta who will be looking to throw her name in the mix for the Investec Oaks when she lines up in Listed company. She beat Frankly Darling – another Oaks contender – at Yarmouth in October and is a warm favourite for the British Stallion Studs EBF/MansionBet Abingdon Fillies' Stakes (3.00).
Varian also runs smart sprinter Sunday Sovereign in the Scurry Stakes (2.40) at Sandown. He makes his yard debut and has not ran since finishing eighth when sent off a 13-8 favourite in the Norfolk Stakes.
Of Varian's remaining eight runners, Ascension is well fancied at Sandown (2.05), Zegalo bids to build on his latest win at Doncaster (4.30) and Farzeen is an intriguing contender in Newbury's MansionBet-sponsored Maggie Dickson Fillies' Stakes (3.00).
Jockey
With Ryan Moore remaining in Britain, Seamie Heffernan picks up all of the top rides for Ballydoyle at the Curragh. In the Irish 1,000 Guineas (7.15) he rides Peaceful, making her first start since finishing second at Newmarket in November.
Heffernan also partners Lanwades Stud Stakes (7.45) hot favourite Magic Wand and the exciting Lancaster House, the one to beat in the Group 3 Coolmore Calyx Gladness Stakes (6.45).
Other interesting mounts include Kew Gardens' full sister Snow (5.10), newcomer Finest (4.35) and he teams up with Tony Martin in the Irish Stallions EBF-sponsored Ragusa Handicap (6.15) with the progressive Melburnian.
Horse
The quirky but classy King Of Comedy begins his four-year-old campaign in the Group 3 MansionBet-sponsored Diomed Stakes (3.35). He takes a drop in class having been tested at the top level last season, with his best effort a neck second to Circus Maximus in the St James's Palace Stakes.
He disappointed when well beaten in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in October and looks to bounce back with Martin Harley partnering the John Gosden-trained runner.
Race
The Classic action continues on Saturday at the Curragh as the fillies take the spotlight in the Tattersalls 1,000 Guineas (7.15).
The field is dominated by the O'Brien family, with runners for Aidan, Joseph and Donnacha, but it is Jessica Harrington who has the one to beat. She runs last season's Prix Marcel Boussac winner Albigna, who is 6lb superior of her rivals on official ratings.
