Fingers burned at 1.06 after final-furlong fall drama
There was a dramatic finish to Nottingham's opening nursery as the Ivan Furtado-trained Blacklooks first hit the front, looking for all money the winner, and then veered markedly left, jumping through the running rail and unseating David Nolan in the process.
Blacklooks was matched at 1.06 on Betfair (to £283.99) as he hit the front with half a furlong to run, while the winner Regular Income hit a high of 130, but then disaster struck with the race changing complexion in an instant.
Nolan was fortunate to be left with only bruising as he came off at race pace and then became entangled with one of the poles supporting the running rail.
Furtado said: "I thought he'd come to win the race but thankfully the jockey and the horse are both fine, that's the main thing. There will be another day."
On Nolan specifically he added: "I spoke to David and he has bruises everywhere but he's fine."
Nolan later tweeted: "Had better days. Thankfully on my way home in reasonable condition."
The Racing Post's in-running comments read: "In touch, headway on outer to chase leaders 2f out, effort and edged left over 1f out, ridden to challenge and hung left 120 yds out, soon led. Hung badly left and ran out through rail inside last 100 yds."
Explaining exactly what happened, Furtado continued: "He was hanging left in the straight and David said there was a horse inside stopping him but once he hit the front and he was touched with the stick he swerved left and went through the rail.
"When he won at Leicester he went left a little bit. He has got talent but he's a bit quirky so we may try headgear next time."
More misery for in-running punters at Chepstow
On a day of in-running upsets Chooseyourweapon got up late in the 2m3½f maiden hurdle at Chepstow after hitting a high of 340, nabbing Gowiththeflow, who traded at the basement price of 1.01.
