No Breeders' Cup for Sea Of Class as Haggas sets sights on second Arc challenge

There will be no seasonal swansong for Sea Of Class at the Breeders' Cup next month as connections of Sunday's gallant Arc runner-up have decided to draw stumps for the year.

Unlike her conqueror Enable, runner-up Sea Of Class has been on the go since making her debut at the Craven meeting in April and it has been decided she has done enough for the year, with the plan to keep her in training in 2019.

The Irish and Yorkshire Oaks winner came within a short neck of adding the Paris showpiece to her Group 1 roll of honour, and all roads will lead to a return trip to Longchamp next October.

Sea Of Class had been as short as 7-4 favourite for the Grade 1 Filly & Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on November 3.

The daughter of Sea The Stars, owned by Ling and Christopher Tsui, will instead spend the winter at trainer William Haggas's stable in Newmarket, where she will be prepared for a campaign next year revolving around a second crack at the Arc, for which she is 6-1 joint-favourite with Enable.

Haggas was inspecting yearlings at Tattersalls on Monday and broke off to tell the Racing Post: "Sea Of Class arrived back from France this morning in good shape but I haven't seen her myself as I have been up here all morning. She won't be running again this year and the intention is to keep her for next year.

"She ran a great race yesterday and hopefully she can go one better next year."

In contrast, the Breeders' Cup option remains on the table for Enable, as does the prospect of Khalid Abdullah's dual Arc winner staying in training as a five-year-old.

Like Sea Of Class, Enable arrived back in Newmarket on Monday and is reported to be in good shape.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner, said: "Enable has come out of the Arc in good shape and all options are up for discussion. We'll see how she shapes over the next few days."

Enable is a best-priced 4-5 for the Breeders' Cup Turf on November 3, and should she remain in training in 2019 would have the goal of becoming the first horse to win the Arc three times.

Trainer John Gosden said: "Enable seems in good shape and we'll know in about ten days whether she'll be going to the Breeders' Cup or not.

"That is the first decision to be made, and other decisions about her future will be taken after that."
