Bigger-priced horses are winning more races in Britain and Ireland than ever before, with 22 winners returning starting prices of 100-1 or longer since racing resumed in Britain in June last year.

Data compiled by the Racing Post shows the likes of 300-1 winner He Knows No Fear and 200-1 scorer Intercessor have more regularly ended up in the winner’s enclosure than in the previous 33 years, during which 179 horses triumphed at SPs of 100-1 or more.

As well as more winners at eyecatching prices, there have been an increased number of horses starting at odds of 100-1 or longer in the period since June 2020, during which the SP has been returned by off-course bookmakers in the absence of on-course layers while fixtures take place behind closed doors.
