Gambles at Gowran as two horses cut to 17-2 from 40 for same race

Two notable gambles have shaken up the market for the Xenon Handicap Hurdle (3.10) at Gowran Park on Saturday with two outsiders backed into single-figure prices this morning.

Support has come for Clonmoyle and Hollywood West with firms shortening them to 17-2, having been 40-1 on Friday evening.

The Peter Fahey-trained Clonmoyle started her season in point-to-points but switched to rules in January and has failed to make an impact, finishing at best seventh in three starts since the new year.

ITV Racing tips: one key runner from each of the seven races on ITV on Saturday

The seven-year-old will be partnered by Sam Ewing for the first time and has shot up the market alongside Hollywood West, who is trained by Helen Markham.

Hollywood West also comes into this 2m4f contest on his lowest mark after a poor run of form, having been pulled up on his last start in January at Punchestown.

At Sandown, punters are backing Lucky One (2.25) to provide Dan Skelton with back-to-back wins in the big betting race of the day – the Paddy Power Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle at Sandown.

Skelton struck with Langer Dan in the Grade 3 event last season and Lucky One, the mount of Harry Skelton, has a nice low weight of 10st 5lb for the 22-runner event. He has been supported into 6-1 second favourite (from 8 overnight).

Lucky One has been dropped 12lb in three starts since joining Skelton from Paul Nicholls and the drop in trip is a likely plus having finished a well-beaten third behind Good Risk At All at Ascot over 2m3½f last time.

The less exposed Balco Coastal, trained by Nicky Henderson, heads the betting at a general 9-2.

The going on the hurdles course is now soft following 1.5mm of rainfall since 7am on Saturday morning (from soft, good to soft in places).

The chase course is now described as good to soft, soft in places following selective watering ahead of the ITV4-televised meeting.

Wolverhampton, which also features on ITV's Saturday coverage, hosts a seven-race all-weather fixture on the Tapeta surface, where the going is standard and overnight rain is expected to ease by mid morning.

The afternoon meeting features the Lincoln Trial Handicap (2.05), where La Tihaty seeks to bring his all-weather streak to five, followed by the Lady Wulfruna Stakes (2.40).
