Leading Guineas hope Quorto finished for season as connections bypass Dewhurst

Charlie Appleby has revealed that star two-year-old Quorto will not run again this season, with all roads now leading to next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas.

After Quorto won the National Stakes at the Curragh this month, connections indicated that their choice would be to contest the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket or draw stumps for the year and they have decided on the latter course of action.

"He has done exceptionally well in his first season, winning his Group 2 and Group 1 and progressing all the time," Appleby said on Wednesday, quoted on Godolphin's website.

"The 2,000 Guineas has always been the long-term plan and, following discussions with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, we have decided to put him away for the year."

Quorto achieved his first top-level victory when running out an ultra-impressive winner of the National Stakes, accounting for Anthony Van Dyck by a length and a quarter.

He was a general 11-4 chance for the Dewhurst before the news broke and bookmakers reacted by cutting Too Darn Hot to a best price of 5-4.
