Laurens the main attraction as 11 stables welcome public on Middleham open day
Five-time Group 1 winner Laurens will be one of the main attractions as 11 stables open their doors to the public at the annual Middleham open day on Friday.
The star filly's trainer Karl Burke will open the doors to his Spigot Lodge stable and visitors will also get the chance to see Derby runner-up Dee Ex Bee at the home of record-breaking trainer Mark Johnston and Stayers' Hurdle second Sam Spinner at Jedd O'Keeffe's yard.
"Middleham open day should draw a huge crowd – people always appreciate looking round the yards – and they'll be able to see the new part of Spigot Lodge that we developed last year," said Burke.
Stable visits will be available from 9.30am to 1pm before the event moves to the Low Moor from 1.30pm, when there will be a retraining of racehorses parade and inter-yard team challenge.
The Arena Racing Company-sponsored open day is expected to attract around 3,000 people, with funds helping Racing Welfare's Hill House Appeal in the town.
The appeal will seek to raise £2 million to complete the project set to provide accommodation for young people starting out in their careers within the local racing community.
Entry is available on the day, priced at £12.50 for standard tickets and £8.50 for over-65s, with under-16s admitted for free.
