Thursday's big story

Arguably the star of the season thus far has been Snowfall, who clearly emerged as the leading middle-distance filly of her generation with a record-breaking 16-length demolition in the Oaks in June. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Snowfall is bidding to emulate the great Enable in completing an Oaks treble by adding the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (3.35) to her victories in equivalent contests at Epsom and the Curragh. There won't be many willing to take on the odds-on favourite, but perhaps best placed to challenge is dual Group 1 winner Wonderful Tonight, who has won each of her last four starts.

Thursday's best bet

4.45 York

Dermot Weld has had two winners and a second from four runners in this race since 2010 and has booked Oisin Murphy, who rode his 2019 winner Search For A Song.

Amma Grace is the highest-rated filly in the field and shaped well on her return from a three-month break at Cork 12 days ago. Three-year-olds usually win this, but the British Classic fillies have not looked strong at middle distances this season.

Thursday's best horses

Snowfall is the obvious standout, but some star fillies of the future get the chance to strut their stuff in the Group 2 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (1.50), in which the unbeaten Sandrine is a strong favourite to solidify her claims for next year's 1,000 Guineas.

La Trinidad is chasing a third straight victory at York in the Clipper Logistics Handicap (3.00) and would be a popular winner for local trainer Roger Fell.

Frankie Dettori has five rides on the card and his best chance of a winner may come in the Listed British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes (4.45), in which he rides Pennymoor for father-son training duo John and Thady Gosden.
