There are two evening meetings to kickstart the weekend with Kempton and Dundalk each playing host to eight-race cards. Here are three runners who merit respect across the two tracks. . .

Spencers Son6.15 Kempton

Richard Spencer is quickly earning a reputation for excelling with his two-year-olds and Spencers Son took a big step forward from his debut when scoring in good fashion over course and distance in October.

The Arcano gelding is the trainer's sole representative on the card and his rider Tom Queally also arrives for just one mount.

Although giving weight to the predominantly unexposed field won't be straightforward, he can show the benefit of that experience by enhancing a fine season for Spencer this evening.

20.30 Dundalk

The Damian English-trained Geological has been a standing dish in Dundalk handicaps for some time and certainly knows a thing or two about what is required to win at the track.

The previous time Geological encountered six furlongs here, he was beaten only a nose by subsequent Prix de l'Abbaye fifth Lost Treasure.

Four of his last seven victories have come at Dundalk and, just 1lb above his last winning mark, the six-year-old could be primed to strike once more off a mark of 84.

9.00 Dundalk

New Direction has been running admirably in defeat this season and must be considered unfortunate not to have frequented the winner's enclosure since last June.

The Jim Bolger-trained six-year-old was second to Downdraft – a horse fancied by many to make a splash in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot earlier this year – on his last start, and perhaps a 2lb rise to a rating of 79 for that showing could prove lenient.

The son of New Approach is a course-and-distance winner and deserves compensation for his consistency in recent months.
