The Racecourse Prices Index: how much for food and drink at Worcester?

In the Racecourse Prices Index (RPI) we report from Britain and Ireland's racetracks on the cost of going racing.

Racecourse report: entry, food and pint prices from Worcester

Worcester

Date visited: Wednesday, June 29, 2022

Was it a big day?

A fairly standard midweek meeting. Only one race had fewer than seven runners, which is good for jumping at this time of the year.

How much was entry on the gate?

It cost £24 to get in to the County Stand for adults and £19 for seniors (60+). That allows access to the whole racecourse and a nice parade ring area but given the quality of racing, it appears on the high side. The cost was reduced to £19 when purchased in advance.

Other than restaurants/hospitality, what were the food and beverage options?

In a comprehensive edition of the Racecourse Prices Index I also attended the fixture here last week. Since then the food van had changed from Burger Street to Porky's Real Sausage.

Last week my burger from Burger Street might well have been the worst I have ever had – and I've been to many lower-league football matches – so my advice would be to take a U-turn if you consider heading down this particular road.

An ice cream van was not as popular given the rain this week while in the main concourse a small stall had an option of pies.

What's the damage?

Bottle of water: £2.50
Cheapest pint: £5.35, Carlsberg, Kingstone Press
Guinness: £5.95
Burger: £6.50
Pie: £5.50
Chips: £4
Hot dog: £4

All drink prices taken from the main racecourse bar, or where there are multiple bars, one chosen at random.

What was the hot dog like?

I had intended to go for a pie at the racecourse kiosk in the main grandstand but no food was available before the first race, which was a major disappointment.

Instead I opted for a hot dog and it was fairly enjoyable. Nothing to shout about but a decent lunch option, albeit too expensive for what it is. 3/5.
