John Ryan was unsuccessful with his appeal against the decision made by Sligo stewards to disqualify Kilcarry View after his victory in a maiden hurdle at the track in August because jockey, Liam Quinlan, weighed in light afterwards.


Ruby Walsh joins RTE’s Game On 2FM radio show

RTE has secured the services of 12-time champion jockey Ruby Walsh for its flagship midweek sports radio programme Game On.

Walsh has joined the programme, which is broadcast on RTE's 2FM radio station, alongside former British & Irish Lion, Donncha O’Callaghan, who won 94 Ireland caps including three Triple Crowns.

Group Head of RTÉ Sport, Declan McBennett said: "Ruby and Donncha bring an insight that only comes with elite athletes who have a successful track record.

"We believe they can transfer that knowledge and insight to listeners in a manner that enhances our sporting coverage for a sports mad nation."


Disciplinary panel to investigate Morgan

Tom Morgan will be the subject of an inquiry by the BHA's disciplinary panel on Thursday after being accused of laying horses under the care of a trainer for whom he was a registered employee.

The former jump jockey shared the Irish title with Frank Berry in 1986 and won the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival two years later aboard Pearlyman for trainer John Edwards.

Morgan is alleged to have breached the rules of racing during the periods of November 1, 2005 to December 19, 2008 and September 16, 2013 to October 28, 2016.


McNamara readying strong Munster National challenge

Eric McNamara, who trains locally to Limerick racecourse, could run as many as three in the JT McNamara Ladbrokes Munster National on Sunday week.

Among the 31 horses entered for the €100,000 contest are McNamara's Internal Transfer, Black Scorpion and Gwencily Berbas.

Speaking about his challenge, McNamara, who won the race back in 1999 with Kaselectric, said: "At the moment it's all systems go and the three of them will run.

"It's a race I'd obviously love to win being named after the great John Thomas McNamara, who was a great friend of mine.

“He was a fantastic jockey and he rode numerous winners for me and I'd love to win it. I've three chances. I've no certainty but I've three live candidates."
