Queen's Classic hope Reach For The Moon to miss rest of the season after setback
The Queen's top juvenile Reach For The Moon, winner of the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown in August, will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining an injury during routine exercise on Tuesday.
The son of Sea The Stars had been a possible runner for John and Thady Gosden in next month's Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes on Future Champions Day at Newmarket, for which he was a general 8-1 chance.
John Gosden said: "Unfortunately, Reach For The Moon sustained an injury during a routine canter on Warren Hill and he's currently at the vets being checked out. He's out for the season but we can get him back for 2022."
Reach For The Moon finished runner-up on his first two starts, the second behind the smart Point Lonsdale in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
He got off the mark at the third time of asking when winning a 7f novice at Newbury by four lengths in July before scoring by the same margin when upped in class at Sandown, where he took the step into Group 3 company in his stride when accounting for Great Max.
On his latest outing, Reach For The Moon may have been unsuited by the good to soft ground when going down by a head to Bayside Boy in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on St Leger day.
Reach For The Moon is a general 20-1 chance for the 2,000 Guineas and is as short as 9-1 with William Hill for the Derby, a race for which he is not currently entered.
