Q&A: everything you need to know about attending this year's St Leger festival

Next month, racegoers will have the chance to attend meetings for the first time since March through a series of eight pilot events. Doncaster's four-day St Leger festival, beginning on Wednesday, September 9, will be the first trial fixture. Here is the key information you need to know if you are planning to attend . . .

When do tickets go on sale?

Tickets for the festival are due to go on sale later on Friday, August 28.

What if I'd already purchased tickets for the meeting?

Those tickets are still valid and anyone who had previously purchased tickets for the fixture, either general admission or hospitality, should have been contacted earlier this week.

How many tickets are available?

For day one (Wednesday, September 9) up to 3,640 people can attend. For the remaining three days up to 6,200 can attend.

How much are tickets?

Prices begin at £25 for the first day of the fixture. On St Leger day the cheapest tickets are £40.

Can I turn up on the day and buy a ticket?

No. All ticket sales are advance-only and will be issued as e-tickets.

I bought a ticket for this year's meeting but cannot attend, can I have a refund?

Tickets can be transferred to next year's St Leger festival or a full refund will be issued. Those affected should contact Doncaster racecourse for further details.

How will the course be laid out?

The course will be split into different zones, each with different entry and exit points. Entering and exiting the zones will be staggered to ensure social distancing can take place.

Will I be able to move freely around the course?

You will be limited to the zone for which you purchased your ticket. Although certain areas like the pre-parade ring will be off limits, big screens will be in place to broadcast action from affected areas.

Will I have to wear a face mask when attending?

Yes, when arriving at the course and also while using any indoor facilities such as toilets or bookmakers. When outside, you are not required to wear a mask, but must respect social distancing guidelines.

Hand sanitiser will be available in all zones and there will be additional stations at bars and toilets.

Will there be any medical testing when I arrive at the course?

At present, there will be no requirement to undergo any specific medical testing. Details for track-and-trace will be taken via the online ticket booking system. Customers who have already purchased tickets will be offered further details on how to submit their details for track-and-trace.

Can I get food and drink at the meeting?

Bars and catering will be available, with strict one-way systems in operation. Table service will not be available. Only food and drink purchased on-site may be consumed.

Will I be able to place a bet?

Yes, there will be on-site betting facilities.

Is there a dress code?

Gentlemen must wear a jacket with a collared shirt and tie in the restaurant and ladies must be smartly dressed. In all other areas, gentlemen should wear a collared shirt. Denim, sportswear and trainers are not permitted.

Can children attend?

In the general admittance zones, no under-18s will be allowed in accordance with licensing requirements. Hospitality guests may bring children, but each child must have a ticket and be registered on the track-and-trace system.

Can I buy a racecard?

A digital racecard will be available for everyone attending. Printed racecards are yet to be confirmed, but may be available.
