Phoenix Stakes scorer Advertise among 79 entries for Dewhurst

Group 1 winner Advertise is one of a number of big names among the 79 entries for the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.

The Martyn Meade-trained juvenile, who finished second behind Calyx in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, will step up to 7f for the first time and his potential rivals include the likes of impressive Vintage Stakes winner Dark Vision and stablemate Confiding.

Aidan O'Brien, who has won four of the last five runnings of the £500,000 juvenile contest, most recently with July Cup hero US Navy Flag last term, is responsible for 29 of the entries including Goodwood winner Land Force.

Meade said: "Advertise has come out of his Phoenix Stakes victory very well so far. He's had a number of runs already so I will put him on the easy list for a bit and knock off him for the next three weeks before aiming him at the Darley Dewhurst Stakes.

"The plan is to give him just one more run this year as in my view he will be a fantastic three-year-old and I wouldn't want to jeopardise that by running him too often. It's important that he's already won his Group 1 as a juvenile, although it would be very nice to win another one."

Meade added: "The Darley Dewhurst must be right at the top of the tree as one of the best Group 1 races – it's a very coveted prize, that's why we've been focusing on it ever since he won the July Stakes."

On the two-year-old's half-length victory last weekend, Meade added that the lack of pace did not help his cause and expects him to improve for a strongly-run race.

"The Phoenix was not ideal for him as he needs a good pace, but he still quickened away from them," he said. "I was thrilled that he ran so well when the race was not run to suit him and I think that he will be a different proposition off a stronger pace."

Meade, who was notably bullish on Advertise's chances at the Curragh, was not concerned with the step up to 7f and expects the son of Showcasing to handle a mile next season.

"He takes a bit of time to get into his stride, he is not an out-and-out sprinter, so I'm looking forward to stepping him up to 7f. He is also happy to be put wherever you want him in a race so we can ride him to get the trip and I feel that it’s not unreasonable to expect him to get a mile next season."

The 46 entries for the bet365 Group 1 Fillies' Mile, won last year by subsequent Prix de Diane heroine Laurens, is headed by the emphatic Duchess of Cambridge Stakes winner Pretty Pollyanna, who is a likely runner in the Prix Morny on Sunday and also holds an entry in the Cheveley Park Stakes, and Royal Ascot winner Main Edition.

Molecomb Stakes winner Rumble Inthejungle is one of 45 entries for the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket at the end of September and bids to give Royal Ascot-winning trainer Richard Spencer his first Group 1 success.

He looks set to run in the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster on September 14 before a step up to six furlongs at Newmarket.

Spencer said: "Rumble Inthejungle has been fine since Goodwood and his next intended run is the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster. Then, all being well, he will step up to six furlongs for the Juddmonte Middle Park.”

Signora Capbello joins Pretty Pollyanna among the 45 entries for the Cheveley Park Stakes. The two fillies, who have been successful in Group 2 company on their last starts, head to Deauville next for the Prix Morny.
